Zenit footballer Mario Fernandez wanted to end his career
Brazilian defender of St. Petersburg Zenit Mario Fernandez wanted to end his career. RIA Novosti reports this.
According to the agency, the football player may retire at the end of the 2023/2024 season. It is noted that the St. Petersburg team is ready to continue cooperation with the 33-year-old defender if he decides not to retire from football.
Fernandez joined the blue-white-sky blues in the summer of 2023. As part of Zenit, he took part in 18 matches in all tournaments, without scoring any goals. Fans of CSKA Moscow were dissatisfied with the player’s transfer to Zenit and demanded that graffiti depicting Fernandez be removed from his home VEB Arena.
The reason was that from 2012 to 2022 Fernandez played for CSKA, after which he took a break from his career. Since January 2023, the defender played on loan for the Brazilian Internacional, but on April 21 he left the club early for personal reasons.
