Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas thanked his mother for his Soviet upbringing
Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas thanked his mother Yulia Salnikova for her Soviet upbringing. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
Tsitsipas said his mother taught him discipline, hard work and respect for his opponents. Also, the tennis player noted, Salnikova greatly influenced him to always remain modest and not think too much about himself.
“Through all of this, she has made me a stronger person mentally and probably a stronger athlete,” Tsitsipas said. He emphasized that such an upbringing allowed him to become a more mature person than many of his rivals.
The athlete’s mother was born in the USSR. Salnikova then moved abroad for work and married Greek coach Apostolos Tsitsipas.
Tsitsipas, 25, is ranked eighth in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings.
