The IOC refused to award Olympic medals to the Russians at the Games in Paris

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) refused to award medals that were given to the Russians after a review of the results of the past Games. The organization’s press service reported this to TASS.

The IOC emphasized that the redistribution of medals should and has always been handled by the national Olympic committee of the respective athlete. They also noted that the Russian Olympic Committee was unable to return 15 medals to the IOC, which were taken from the country’s representatives. “Therefore, the IOC, despite the suspension of the Russian Olympic Committee, currently does not have the opportunity to redistribute medals to Russian athletes,” the IOC stated.

In 2018, the IOC recognized the Russian rower Ilya Shtokalov as the bronze medalist of the 2016 Games after the disqualification of Moldovan Sergei Tarnovsky. In March of this year, the Russian said that he never received a medal.

Earlier, the IOC announced its intention to award the winners and medalists of past Olympics during the 2024 Games in Paris. The ceremonies will take place in a specially organized Champions Park.
