This Tuesday, Getafe president Ángel Torres revealed that Barcelona would be interested in signing English striker Mason Greenwood, who is on loan from Manchester United.
According to Ángel Torres, the 22-year-old athlete’s situation was questioned by Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, and Deco, sporting director. However, Atlético de Madrid, identified as one of those interested, did not carry out any consultation on the player.
“Atlético Madrid didn’t ask me about Greenwood, the only one who asked me was Laporta. I spoke to him and Deco, who spoke about him because they like the player,” he told Radio Marca.
In the current season, Greenwood played 32 games, scored ten goals and distributed six assists. The striker found good football again after being sidelined during the 2022/23 season.
The player was dismissed by Manchester United last year after being arrested, accused of sexual violence and attempted rape. However, the charges were dropped in February 2023 and he returned to play this season, on loan to Getafe.
Manchester United owns 75% of Greenwood’s economic rights, while Getafe has 25%. Despite this, Ángel believes that the attacker will remain in the team.
“If it depends on the boy and his parents, he will stay. It seems that Manchester United wants to sell him, but I think he will stay here”, he reported.
