Former player Rivaldo praised striker Vitor Roque this Monday and criticized the Brazilian’s little playing time at Barcelona. The young man arrived at the Catalan club in January this year, but was little used by coach Xavi and could be traded at the end of the season.
“I think Vitor Roque lacked opportunities. They gave very few minutes to a player who stood out in the Brazilian Championship. He is very young and didn’t have the necessary opportunities to show his football”, he stated in an interview with Betfair.
Vitor Roque arrived at Barcelona in January 2024 after standing out playing for Athletico-PR. However, he played little this season. The striker participated in just 13 matches, only two as a starter, and scored two goals.
Because of this, the 19-year-old athlete’s permanence on the team is not guaranteed. Last week, Xavi said he would assess the striker’s situation at the end of the season and André Cury, the player’s agent, assured that he would not accept a loan.
“If the club doesn’t make room for Vitor, unfortunately we will have to talk to find a solution. A loan for a young man ends up harming him, because he goes to another club that doesn’t own him and has no interest in taking care of him. This It’s very dangerous for the boy’s career. The best thing is to stay at Barça, but if he can’t stay, we’ll work for him to leave permanently”, revealed André Cury in an interview with RAC1 Radio.
Rivaldo also commented on the possible departure of Vitor Roque.
“Sometimes this happens. He didn’t have opportunities and now they believe that the player won’t be useful for the club, so they’re going to look for a transfer for him. I think Barcelona didn’t know how to give him more opportunities. He’s a good player, has a future.”
With only four games left until the end of the season, the expectation is that the Brazilian will receive more minutes on the field. After the team’s 4-2 defeat to Girona at the weekend, Real Madrid won the Spanish Championship. Thus, Barcelona will no longer compete for any title this season.
The Catalan club returns to the field next Monday, at 4pm (Brasília time), against Real Sociedad, at the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium, for the 35th round of La Liga.
