Euskaraz irakurri: Merlier nagusitu da sprintean hirugarren stagen, Pogacarrek garaipena lortu nahi izan duen arren
The Belgian cyclist Tim Merlier (Soudal QuickStep) won this Monday in the third stage of the 107th edition of the Italy spindisputed over 165 kilometers between Novara and Fossano, while the Slovenian Tadej Pogacar (UAE Team Emirates) continues to lead and extends its lead thanks to the bonus second in the intermediate sprint over Geraint Thomas (Ineos).
With three kilometers to go, in a non-scoring tack, the Dane Mikkel Honoré (EF-EasyPost) jumped out of the pack, and the race leader, Tadej Pogacar, joined the group of favorites in this fight, in a display of quality and ambition. The Welshman left with him Geraint Thomas, and for a moment it seemed that they were going to fight between them for the victory of the day; However, both were absorbed by the peloton with only 300 meters to go.
In the massive arrival, Merlier surpassed the Italian Jonathan Milan (Lidl Trek) and to Eritrean Biniam Girmay (Intermarché-Wanty), second and third, respectively.
This Tuesday the transalpine round will face its fourth stage, between Acqui Terme and Andora, with 190 kilometers of route, and only one third category port along the way. The day will foreseeably be resolved in a sprint, although with Pogacar No scenario can be ruled out.
