Russian wrestlers Stepanov and Kutuzov were denied selection for the 2024 Olympics
Two leaders of the Russian Greco-Roman wrestling team were denied qualification for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. President of the Russian Wrestling Federation (FSBR) Mikhail Mamiashvili told RIA Novosti.
He said that Sergei Stepanov and Sergei Kutuzov were not allowed to participate in international competitions in the weight category up to 77 kilograms. “Nevertheless, we must win all four remaining Olympic berths,” he added.
Earlier, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) did not allow two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling from Russia Abdulrashid Sadulayev to qualify for the Olympic Games in Paris.
Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutral athletes by decision of the International Olympic Committee. However, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will miss the tournament. In addition, there will be no representatives of the two countries’ team sports in Paris.
