They found a new opponent for the title fight for Bivol

Dmitry Bivol will defend his title in a fight with Libyan Malik Zinad

The organizers of the boxing evening in Saudi Arabia have found a new opponent for Russian Dmitry Bivol for the title fight. ESPN reports this.

World Boxing Association (WBA Super) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol will defend his title in a fight with Libyan representative Malik Zinad. This fight will take place on June 1 in Riyadh.

Initially, Bivol was supposed to fight the world champion in the light heavyweight category according to the versions of the World Boxing Council (WBC), the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) Artur Beterbiev, who was born in Russia, but now competes under the flag of Canada. However, Beterbiev suffered a torn meniscus and will undergo knee surgery. Their fight with Bivol is now scheduled to take place at the end of 2024.

On May 4, Beterbiev said that doctors insisted on postponing the fight. “Unfortunately, injuries in professional sports are not uncommon, and no one is immune from them. “I sincerely did not want the upcoming fight to be postponed, but the doctors insisted on a postponement,” he said. The boxer emphasized that the fight with Bivol will definitely take place later.
