Salnikov said that seven Russian swimmers met the Olympic standard
The head of the All-Russian Swimming Federation (RSF) Vladimir Salnikov named the number of domestic athletes who fulfilled the Olympic standard at competitions in Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina). His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
According to the president of the federation, seven swimmers showed the required time, but no one plans to participate in the 2024 Games. “The purpose of the performance is to gain experience and practice in performing on the international stage. No one set themselves the goal of obtaining a neutral status after the competitions,” Salnikov emphasized.
Earlier, TV commentator Dmitry Guberniev joked about Russian swimmers who refused to go to the Olympic Games. “The smart and strong don’t refuse the Olympic Games! Swimmers take note,” he noted.
The Olympic Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. Russians and Belarusians, if a number of conditions are met, will be able to compete in the individual competitions of the tournament in a neutral status.
