Ancelotti confirms Courtois’ return to Real Madrid goal after nine months

After being sidelined for nine months due to injuries, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois will start for Real Madrid in the team’s next match, against Cádiz, this Saturday. The information came from coach Carlo Ancelotti, in a press conference held this Friday.

“He is well and will play on Saturday after a long time. It is good news for us that he is back, just like when Militão returned. He can contribute a lot. He is well and with a lot of enthusiasm. We are all delighted with his return “, he said.

Although the Belgian is fit to play, Carlo Ancelotti confirmed that Lunin, who has been replacing Courtois, will be the starter in the decisive match against Bayern Munich, in the return of the Champions League semi-final, next Wednesday.

If Real Madrid beat Bayern and qualify for the final, Ancelotti revealed that he is still not sure who will start in the decision.

“We haven’t thought about that. We have a final on Wednesday. We haven’t thought about what could happen in a month’s time. We’ll see. I hope we can think about that, because that will mean that we actually reach the final in London,” he said.

Courtois’ last appearance in a Real Madrid shirt was on August 2, 2023, in a friendly against Juventus, in the pre-season. He suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and, when he was about to return, he had a tear in the internal meniscus in his right knee.

Real Madrid and Cádiz face each other this Saturday, at 11:15 am (Brasília time), in a match valid for the 34th round of the Spanish Championship. The Santiago Bernabéu Stadium will be the venue for the duel.
