The steering wheel of Newcastle, Sandro Tonali, was suspended for two months by an independent Regulatory Commission for violating English football betting rules. He was also fined 20 thousand pounds (R$128 thousand) by the English Football Association.
The sentence, however, is conditional, that is, the Italian will only be suspended if he commits the act again. The player is currently serving a ten-month suspension from the Italian Football Federation for sports betting while playing for Milan.
Therefore, Tonali will be available to Newcastle to play at the end of August. Initially, he would be sentenced to 18 months out, but, because he admitted his addiction and cooperated with the investigation, the punishment was reduced, with the inclusion of a therapeutic plan and an educational program.

In English football since 2023, the midfielder participated in 12 games for the English team, scoring one goal. At 23 years old, he also played for Milan and Brescia during his career.
Due to the punishment, the 1-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund, on October 25, 2023, in England, was Tonali’s last game. To count on him, Newcastle spent 70 million euros (R$364 million).
