Ukrainians were outraged by the anthem included in honor of the victory of the Russian cyclist Bugaenko

The organizers of the one-day bicycle race “Vicenza – Bionde”, held in Italy, played the Russian anthem in honor of the victory of Russian Viktor Bugaenko, competing in a neutral status. This was reported on the website of the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Ukraine.

The award ceremony for the winners of the race, which was attended by athletes no older than 23 years old, took place on April 28. The Ukrainian side was outraged by the decision of the organizers. They demanded an investigation be carried out and measures taken to prevent this from happening in the future.

On January 1, the International Cycling Union (UCI) assigned neutral status to 43 Russian athletes. Four Russian cyclists were denied neutral status due to involvement in security forces or support of a special military operation.

Last May, Russians were allowed to participate in tournaments under the auspices of the UCI in a neutral status. Athletes were allowed to compete without any association with Russia, the national federation or the national Olympic committee.
