Premier League announces postponement of two games this weekend by covid-19

The Premier League announced this Thursday morning the postponement of two more matches due to the outbreak of covid-19. Wolverhampton, who would face Watford this Sunday, had their game postponed, as well as Liverpool, who will not play against Leeds United.

The British had announced that the Boxing Day, a holiday celebrated on December 26th, the day after Christmas, in which a round of all the main football divisions in the country takes place, would not be cancelled. However, at the request of Leeds and Watford, which still have an insufficient number of players to play in the game, the Premier League Council decided to postpone the clashes.

In a statement, the League informed that it understands the delicate situation faced by the clubs, but will continue with the calendar.

“While I recognize that several clubs are facing covid-19 outbreaks, it is the collective intention of the clubs and the League to continue with the current schedule of games whenever possible,” the statement said.

The Premier League has 18 games scheduled until the end of 2021. The 19th round will have nine games in the traditional Boxing Day, on December 26th, and another on the 27th. The 20th round, in turn, has duels scheduled for the 28th, 29th and 30th.
