General Director of Spartak Malyshev: the closure of the Promes accident case means nothing

General Director of Spartak Oleg Malyshev answered a question about the situation with the club’s foreign player Quincy Promes. His words are quoted by RB Sport.

Malyshev said that the closure of the Promes case regarding an accident in Dubai does not mean anything, and the extradition case is still being considered. “Is Promes likely to return? I don’t want to evaluate this now. We are monitoring the situation and helping as best we can. The club did not terminate his contract,” he noted.

On February 29, Promes was detained at border control at Dubai airport for being involved in an accident and leaving the scene. Two weeks later, the football player was arrested at the request of the Dutch prosecutor’s office for possible further extradition.

On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes in absentia to six years in prison. In the summer of 2023, he received 18 months in prison in his homeland for attacking his brother with a knife.
