The crisis in the team of Polish jumpers continues. It was not changed by the fact that in the Sunday competition in Engelberg, the highest number of players of the national team this season – three. The rest of them jumped poorly, and after returning from Switzerland and the first training at Wielka Krokiew in Zakopane, there are many indications that not much has changed at their disposal.
How many Poles at the 4-Hills-Tournament? Małysz points to three, Doleżal wants six
As reported by the TVP Sport journalist, Mateusz Leleń on Twitter in Wednesday’s training in Zakopane, in the absence of Kamil Stoch and Paweł Wąska, Stefan Hula did the best.
Therefore, it is not expected that the form of Andrzej Stękała, Dawid Kubacki, Jakub Wolny or Klemens Murańka has increased. Nobody expected it: the differences between the Polish jumpers and the top jumpers in Switzerland were so huge that you can imagine that it will take weeks of work to return to this level.
And the World Cup carousel does not stop. After Christmas, it’s time for the first big party of the season, the 70’s. His motto is that even if a jumper is not fighting for victory, he wants to make eight jumps and be in every competition series. However, with the current disposition, most Polish players would have a definite problem with that. Therefore, many people ask the question: is it worth using the full starting quota, i.e. six places allocated to Poles.
According to the answer, the answer is no, but the coach Michal Doleżal is fully in favor of using the limit. – There are three at the 4-Hills-Tournament: Kamil Stoch, Paweł Wąsek and Piotr Żyła. The rest of the riders still have to qualify. The coach wants to take six players. Yesterday there was a training and I must be honest that according to the training, I would not take anyone away from the others -.
There has not been such a situation in Polish ski jumping for seventeen years. Today, three players on TCS is one of the possible solutions
It is a strong opinion, but it suggests that the situation of Polish ski jumping is the worst in 17 years before the 4-Hills-Tournament. It was then, in the 2004/2005 season, for the last time Poles took three players to Oberstdorf – Adam Małysz, Robert Mateja and Krystian Długopolski.
The difference from this season is that back then the Poles wanted to use the full limit of the World Cup competitions. Now they might not have done it due to the opposite: not wanting to take advantage of all the places they could fill at the 4-Hills-Tournament. Once it would have been unthinkable. And today? Today it is quite a real solution.
Although these are only the words of Adam Małysz. The decision will be made by Michal Doleżal, who would like to go to Germany with six jumpers, i.e. the full starting quota available for Polish jumpers. From Malysz’s earlier statements, we know that there are two options for activity for players who would not go to the Tournament. It is a trip to the Continental Cup competition, easy training in the country, or on one of the foreign hills.
Małysz recommends even two weeks of training that could prepare Poles for the Olympics. But Doleżal is closer to choosing the trip of three more Polish players for the trip to. We would like, however, that it would not only be a choice based on the use of the full starting amount, and that the Polish championship would show that it makes more sense. For now, however, there is a concern that with the form presented by the depth of Michał Doleżal’s team, not much will change for the start in Germany and Austria. And the next poor results will not be anything positive for the players in terms of the greatest challenge for this season: returning to form.
The beginning of the first series of the individual men’s competition at the Polish Championships in Zakopane at 17:30. The jumpers will start the competition 25 minutes earlier. Live coverage on Sport.pl and in the Sport.pl LIVE mobile application.
