Former president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) Luis Rubiales denied, this Monday, having received money “irregularly”, after giving testimony before the judge investigating alleged corruption and alleged irregular contracts during his term of office.
“What I maintain and will always maintain and I am convinced that justice will ultimately be done, is that I have never received money irregularly, there has never been any irregular bidding,” Rubiales told the press as he left the Majadahonda court, near Madrid.
The former top hat player added that he worked “with the utmost excellence and in the pursuit of legality”.
Rubiales, who resigned in September last year following the scandal involving forced kissing of player Jenni Hermoso at the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, testified this Monday before the judge investigating alleged irregular contracts during his tenure.
Among the contracts under suspicion would be those related to the Spanish Super Cup to be played in Saudi Arabia and the renovation work at the La Cartuja stadium in Seville.
“I have never done anything wrong in my life,” Rubiales said earlier this month in an interview with La Sexta television.

The former president of the federation appeared in court after his return, on April 3, from the Dominican Republic, when he was briefly detained at Madrid airport by the Civil Guard to inform him about the case.
“I answered all the questions they asked, and if I have to return here, because your Lordship indicates so, I will be here, collaborating. I am the most interested in everything being clarified”, he told the press this Monday.
Rubiales, who described his management during his term between 2018 and 2023 as “very good”, will have to appear in court every month and also ask permission if he travels outside Spain, judicial sources reported.
