Lyon beats Monaco and secures PSG’s third French championship

Monaco entered the field this Sunday in the French Championship needing to win to still have a slim chance of winning the title. The team led by Adolf Hutter visited Lyon at the Groupama Stadium and ended up defeated 3-2.

With Lyon’s victory, Paris Saint-Germain secured their third consecutive French title, bringing their total to 12 French trophies. Ligue 1 in its history. The team from the French capital can no longer be surpassed, with 70 points in 31 games, Monaco occupies second place with 58 points, having only nine more points to play for.

Lyon, in turn, remains strong in the fight to qualify for European competitions, gaining 44 points and occupying 7th place.

THE GAME

Monaco started the game already opening the score, with their star Ben Yedder finding the net in the first minute of the game.

Lyon soon followed, quickly turning the game around with Lacazette and Benrahma scoring in the 22nd and 26th minutes respectively.

The second stage began with Monaco dominating the offensive actions. The visiting team equalized after 15 minutes, with Ben Yedder scoring again.

Despite the draw, Lyon did not hide and scored their third goal in the 39th minute of the second half, with Malick Fofana finishing a beautiful counterattack started by Lacazette’s launch. Despite Monaco’s final efforts, this would be the last goal of the match.

Lyon’s next commitment for Ligue 1 is on Monday, May 6th, where he will visit the Lille team at the Decathlon Arena.
