Arsenal won the classic against Tottenham 3-2, this Sunday, at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in the 35th round of the English Championship. Hojberg (own goal), Saka and Havertz scored the visitors’ goals. Romero and Son scored for the home team.
With the victory, leaders Arsenal opened a four-point lead over Manchester City, in second place with 76 points. Mikel Arteta’s team remains at the top for another round.
Tottenham once again suffered a tough defeat against the English, as they lost 4-0 to Newcastle in the last round. Fifth place with 60 points, the team wasted the opportunity to face Aston Villa, who occupies fourth place.
Arsenal returns to the field next Saturday, against Bournemouth, in the English Championship. Tottenham have another classic ahead of them, this time against Chelsea, this Thursday, in the same competition.
Arsenal opened the scoring 15 minutes into the opening half. After a corner kick, Hojberg, from Tottenham, headed the ball past his own team and scored the visitors’ first goal.
After the goal conceded, Tottenham managed to tie the match in the 22nd minute. Defender Van de Ven took advantage of a shot rebound and sent it into the back of the net. However, after review, the VAR confirmed the defender was offside and the move was disallowed.
With that, Arsenal got excited and, five minutes later, extended the score. Saka received a beautiful ball from Rice, invaded the penalty area, cleared the marker and hit the corner with his left foot to score the team’s second goal.
Shaken on the field, Tottenham saw Arsenal score a third goal in the first half. In the 38th minute, Rice took a corner kick to Havertz’s head, who went alone into the small area and increased the score for the visitors.
Tottenham came back better in the second half and managed to score in the 19th minute. Defender Romero launched an attack and took advantage of goalkeeper Raya’s error to score the home team’s first goal.
At the end of the match, in the 41st minute, Tottenham scored the second goal. Son, with a well taken penalty, put the home team back in the game once and for all.
However, the goal didn’t matter much. Arsenal knew how to hold on and left the field with three points.
