Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko underwent spinal surgery
Two-time Olympic figure skating champion Evgeni Plushenko on his Instagram page (the social network is prohibited in the Russian Federation; belongs to the Meta corporation, which is recognized as extremist in Russia and is banned) wrote that he underwent a complex operation on the spine.
The former athlete thanked his attending physician Dmitry Dzukaev. “The impossible becomes possible thanks to his golden hands. You said that in three months I would be skating, but I’m already skating, spinning and jumping!” – said Plushenko.
Plushenko holds the record for the most Olympic medals in figure skating: he has four Games medals. In addition to two gold medals, he won two silver medals. In addition, the skater is a three-time world champion and seven-time European champion.
Plushenko announced his retirement in 2017. According to him, numerous injuries and surgeries pushed him to take this step. Currently he is engaged in coaching and also tours with his ice show.
