With the result, Yokohama Marinos will face Al Ain in the final of the competition. The United Arab Emirates club eliminated Al-Hilal, the team of Jorge Jesus and Neymar (injured), in the semi-final. The decision will be made on May 11th and 25th.
Yokohama Marinos returns to the field this Saturday, at 3am (Brasília time), against Cerezo Osaka, at the Yodoko Sakura Stadium, for the Japanese Championship. While Ulsan Hyundai hosts Jeju United next Sunday, at 4:30 am, in the South Korean Championship.
The match started with pressure from Yokohama Marinos and Asahi Uenaka opened the scoring 12 minutes into the first half. Nam Tae-Hee tried to dominate, Ulsan Hyundai’s defense failed and the attacker, who came face to face with the goalkeeper, finished over the top to find the net.
The Japanese team remained on the attack and scored the second in the 21st minute. Yan Matheus made a great pass to Anderson Lopes, who spun and shot hard low to score.
In the 30th minute, Yokohama Marinos scored the third, with a great goal from Asahi Uenaka. The attacker received it in the middle, advanced and finished in the right corner from outside the area.
Ulsan Hyundai pulled one back in the 35th minute. Lee Dong-gyeong took a strong corner at the first post and Matheus Sales, ex-Palmeiras, headed the ball into the goal.
In the 39th minute, Ulsan Hyundai scored the second, from a penalty, and Takumi Kamijima was sent off, leaving Yokohama Marinos with one less. A Won-sang advanced quickly on the counterattack, cut to the middle of the area and Takumi Kamijima took the ball away with his hand. The referee marked the foul and issued a red card. From the penalty spot, Darijan Bojanić converted.
In the first minute of the second half, Ulsan Hyundai scored the third, but the offside was detected after a VAR review. Seol Young-woo received the ball in the box on the right, dribbled past the marker and passed it to Darijan Bojanić, who finished low to find the net. However, Gustav Ludwigson was in the direction of the shot and, despite the attacker not touching the ball, the referee decided to disallow the goal.
In the rest of the final stage, the teams tried, but failed to score. Therefore, the game went into extra time and Ulsan Hyundai put a lot of pressure on it, but did not reach the third goal and the match was decided on penalties.
On penalties, Martin Ádám, Kelvin, Ko Seung-Beom, Lee Chung-yong scored for Ulsan Hyundai and Anderson Lopes, Kota Mizunuma, Ken Matsubara, Jun Amano and Carlos Eduardo converted for Yokohama Marinos. Kim Min-Woo wasted the fifth penalty and eliminated the South Korean team.
