The record-breaking swimmer revealed his attitude towards Russians wishing to compete at the Olympics

Swimmer Kolesnikov said that he would not condemn the Russians performing at the Olympic Games

Two-time Olympic medalist in swimming and world record holder Kliment Kolesnikov revealed his attitude towards Russians who want to compete at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

According to him, he will not condemn his compatriots, since each athlete must make a decision independently. “You can’t be very critical of everything. It turns out that if you look at it from a sporting point of view and don’t go there, it’s a loss of everything for the athlete, but from a human point of view, it’s a loss of everything as an individual,” Kolesnikov said.

On September 4, 2023, the World Aquatics bureau allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. Athletes will only be able to take part in events where the time or result is determined by the performance of one swimmer. A maximum of one athlete from Russia per discipline will be allowed to compete.

Only Yulia Efimova announced possible participation in the Olympics. The rest of the leading Russian swimmers, including Kolesnikov, refused to go to the Games in a neutral status.
