Russian pentathlete Batashova lost her salary due to neutral status
Russian pentathlete Ulyana Batashova lost her salary due to receiving neutral status. Her words are quoted by Sport Express.
The athlete said that she decided to realize her goals at the 2022 Olympic Games in Paris, so she submitted papers for status and warned the Russian Modern Pentathlon Federation about this. “Not only did the Federation not help, I was immediately fired from the national team, but I was ready for this too. My dream is more valuable than money,” she emphasized.
On April 20, Batashova became seventh at the World Cup in modern pentathlon in Ankara. She is a six-time champion of Russia in the individual competition, in the team and in the relay. The athlete also has two silver medals at the World Championships in the team and relay.
In December 2023, Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Games in Paris as individual neutral athletes. However, athletes who support the SVO, as well as those who have connections with the Armed Forces or security agencies, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
