The legendary German star Franz Beckenbauer, who passed away on January 7 at the age of 78, will have a bronze statue on the terrace leading to the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich’s stadium, an association of fans of the Bavarian club announced this Sunday.
The statue of ‘Kaiser Franz’ will have a scale of 1.5 (about 2.70 meters). It will be installed on a diamond-shaped base of the Bavarian flag and will be located next to another, that of Gerd Müller, the greatest goalscorer in Bayern’s history and who passed away on August 15, 2021, aged 75.
This statue “should recall the elegant and unforgettable pose of the ‘Kaiser’ as maestro of the game”, explained the Kurt-Landauer Stiftung foundation named after the club’s former president, created in 2017 and which also promoted the scale 1 statue ,5 by Gerd Müller, opened in September 2023.
Bayern Munich and Franz Beckenbauer’s family approved the project, the foundation explained, and the club’s fans can participate in the financing through donations. Organizers hope the opening will take place within a year and a half.
The ‘Kaiser’ and the ‘Bomber’ will meet in front of the Allianz Arena, a stadium to whose construction Beckenbauer contributed during his tenure as Bayern manager in the early 2000s.
