Fetisov said that Russians should make their own decisions about participating in the Olympic Games
Two-time Olympic champion and State Duma deputy Vyacheslav Fetisov spoke about the performance of Russian athletes at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris in a neutral status. TASS reports this.
According to him, everyone must make their own decision about participating in competitions. “This is a difficult situation, it has been going on for several years now, but now it has simply become different due to the SVO. But in general, a performance without a flag and anthem is a violation of rights and everything related to respect,” Fetisov said.
He also named Russian tennis and hockey players playing in the National Hockey League (NHL) as goodwill ambassadors. “We’re happy for them. Because they win in difficult conditions. It’s not easy for them in this situation either, they need to understand this and just support it,” he said.
In December 2023, Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Games in Paris as individual neutral athletes. However, athletes who support the SVO, as well as those who have connections with the Armed Forces or security agencies, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
