Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann, in charge since the end of September 2023, renewed his contract until the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada, the German Football Federation (DFB) announced this Friday. ).
Julian Nagelsmann’s initial contract, 36 years old, at the head of the German national team lasted until Euro-2024, which will be played at home from June 14th to July 14th.
Bayern, looking for a successor to Thomas Tuchel for next season, sees the list of potential candidates reduced to one name. According to the German press, the Munich club had made Nagelsmann’s return their priority, after Xabi Alonso, another club target, announced at the end of March that he would stay at Leverkusen next season.
“It’s a decision from the heart. It’s a great honor to coach the Nationalmannschaft and be able to work with the best players in the country. Together, we want to be successful at the European Championship at home, we’re excited about that,” explained Nagelsmann, quoted in the DFB statement.
“After that, I’m looking forward to facing the challenge of the World Cup together with my team,” added Nagelsmann.

Julian Nagelsmann was fired to everyone’s surprise on March 24, 2023 by the Bayern Munich board, as the decisive weeks of April and May approached, while his team was still in contention in three competitions.
Six months later, the coach, still under contract with Bayern, was called to lead a German team mired in one of the deepest crises in its history, with the dismissal on September 10, 2023 of coach Hansi Flick shortly after a humiliating defeat suffered against Japan (4-1).
Germany’s results began to improve during the March window, with strong choices imposed by Nagelsmann, largely responsible for Toni Kroos’ return to the national team.
The victories against France (2-0), in Lyon, and against the Netherlands (2-1) in Frankfurt gave hope to German fans, less than three months before the opening game of Euro-2024, at the Allianz Arena, in Munich, against Scotland.
And the DFB last week renewed Rudi Voller’s contract as sporting director of the German national team until the 2026 World Cup, which was a sign of Nagelsmann’s renewal.
