The UK will not require Russian athletes to sign declarations
British Sports Minister Stuart Andrew said that the country has softened the conditions for admitting Russian athletes to international tournaments on the territory of the state. The Times reports this.
Andrew said that domestic athletes will no longer be required to sign special declarations of neutrality. It is noted that Great Britain sent a letter with the decision to the heads of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach and the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Andrew Parsons.
In March 2023, the UK Lawn Tennis Association, which organizes Wimbledon, allowed Russian and Belarusian tennis players who signed a “declaration of neutrality” to participate in the tournament. Later information appeared that the athletes agreed to this condition.
Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Games in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
