Ancelotti praises Champions League spot: “Real Madrid never dies”

Real Madrid qualified for the semi-finals of the Champions League by eliminating current champion Manchester City on penalties (4-3) after a 1-1 draw in the 120th minute of the quarter-final match, this Wednesday (17), in England.

Real opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a goal from Brazilian striker Rodrygo and Belgian midfielder Kevin de Bruyne equalized for City in the second half (76′) taking the game into extra time, where the score remained unchanged.

On penalties, Bernardo Silva and Mateo Kovacic were wasted for City, while Luka Modric missed his shot.

With his two penalty saves and several others throughout the game, Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin had a heroic night leading Real Madrid to the semi-finals for the fourth consecutive time.

At this stage, the team from the Spanish capital will face Bayern Munich, who also eliminated Arsenal this Wednesday, with a 1-0 victory (2-2 in the first leg).

“Everyone left us for dead, but they should never leave us for dead. Real Madrid never dies”, celebrated Italian coach Carlo Ancelotti.

Real Madrid managed to win this new battle against the ‘Citizens’, after being eliminated last year in the semi-finals and winning at the same stage in the 2021-2022 season, in which the ‘merengues’ ended up lifting the ‘Orelhuda’.

After the 3-3 draw in the first leg at the Bernabéu, both teams started the game very cautiously, but after the Spanish goal, City took control of the match against a Real Madrid team that tried to surprise with quick counterattacks.
