Fant festival is ready to celebrate its 30th anniversary

On May 3, the psychological thriller directed by Laura Alvear “La mujer dormida” and the screening of 13 Basque short films will open the thirtieth edition of the FantBilbao fantastic film festival, which will close a week later with the film “Late night with the devil”, by Cameron Cairnes and Colin Cairnes.
To start off strong, in the opening session itself, at the Campos Elíseos theater, the Spanish actor Javier Botet (“Rec”, “The Revenant”, “Alien: Covenant”, “It”…) and the Portuguese producer Iván Miñambres (“Birdboy”, “Unicorn Wars”, “The Sultan’s Dream”…) will receive the Fant de Honor award.
For its part, at the closing gala on May 10 at the BBK Room, the Bilbao filmmaker Pedro Olea and the Italian director, producer and screenwriter Lamberto Bava will collect the Estrella del Fantásico award.
In addition, the Fantrobia award, which recognizes an emerging figure within the genre, will be given to the French director and screenwriter Céline Rouzet.
Official Section
18 feature films will compete in the Official Section for the FANT 2024 awards for best feature film, best script and most innovative direction, including “Flies”, by San Sebastian director Aritz Moreno, and “Deviant”, a Basque production directed by Catalan Daniel M. Caneiro. .
In the short films section, 22 films will be screened, thirteen of them Basque and four in Basque: laburren atalean, berriz, 22 lan proiektatuko dituzte, tartean 13 euskal pelikula, horietako lau euskaraz: “Betiko gaua” (2023, Eneko Sagardoy); “Betizu buru” (2023, Kim Maiteny); “Conej Steps out” (2023, Pablo Rio); “Deadly Draw” (2023, Nitya López); “Europe” (2023, Ekain Irigoien); “Extreme serious” (2023, Lorenzo Ayuso); “Feminancy” (2023, Uxuri Etxegia Etxebeste); “Hado” (2023, Rubi Rock); “Jende arrotza” (2023, Imanol Ortiz López); “Nothing at all” (2023, Gastón Haag); “Neither wolves nor lambs” (2024, José Luis Acosta); “To bird or not to bird” (2023, Martín Romero); and “Txotxongiloa” (2023, Sonia Estévez).
In this thirtieth edition of the festival, eleven feature films and three of the short film screenings will have bilingual subtitles in Basque and Spanish.
