Venezuela complained about pressure from the IOC and WADA due to participation in the BRICS Games
Venezuela has complained of pressure from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) over participation in the BRICS Games in Russia. The words of the country’s Deputy Minister of Sports Pablo Alfonso Justiz Araujo are quoted by RIA Novosti.
“There is pressure from the IOC and if we come, some restrictions are possible, but we are trying to get around all this, because the athletes are not to blame and are not connected with what is happening in the political arena. Of course, there are concerns about WADA,” Araujo said.
Araujo noted that the decision to participate in the tournament is made by the Ministry of Sports not under pressure from international organizations. At the same time, the country is afraid of possible sanctions.
The BRICS Games will be held in Kazan from June 12 to 23. Five thousand athletes from more than 60 countries will take part in the competition. A total of 389 sets of medals will be awarded.
