Away from home, Sporting beats Famalicão and increases the advantage in the Portuguese leadership

This Tuesday, Sporting beat Famalicão 1-0, at the Estádio Municipal de Famalicão, in a delayed game from the 20th round of the Portuguese Championship. The visitors’ winning goal was scored by Pedro Gonçalves.

With the triumph, Sporting opened a seven-point lead over Benfica. The team leads the competition with 77 points, with seven rounds to go. Furthermore, the team achieved its seventh consecutive victory in the tournament.

Even with the defeat, Famalicão remained in eighth place in the table, with 35 points won.

Both teams return to the field this Sunday, for the 30th round of the Portuguese Championship. Sporting faces Vitória de Guimarães, while Famalicão faces Portimonense.

Superior on the field, Sporting opened the scoring in the 29th minute of the opening stage. After a good move, Trincão found Pedro Gonçalves free in the penalty area. The striker touched the goalkeeper’s exit and scored the visitors’ first goal of the game.

Behind the marker, Famalicão launched an attack in search of a draw, but the first half ended in a partial victory for Sporting.

The second half had few scoring opportunities for both sides. Sporting knew how to defend themselves and left the field with three important points on their way to the title.
