Dmitry Bivol called it unfortunate that Russian boxers missed the 2024 Olympic Games
World Boxing Association (WBA Super) and International Boxing Organization (IBO) light heavyweight champion Dmitry Bivol commented on the Rossiya 24 TV channel on the omission of Russian boxers from the 2024 Olympic Games.
Bivol called the situation unfortunate. “Of course, it’s a shame for athletes when forces beyond your control decide to complicate your career. This is unpleasant,” he shared, adding that he does not divide the sport into nations.
Previously, Russian boxers refused to qualify for the Olympics in Paris. Domestic athletes will not perform at the qualifying tournaments due to the need to obtain neutral status.
In December 2023, Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Games in Paris as individual neutral athletes. However, athletes who support the SVO, or those with connections to the armed forces or security agencies, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
