The clubs of the Russian Premier League (RPL) agreed to postpone the matches of the 22nd round of the national championship for May 3-5. This was reported in the league’s Telegram channel.
RPL postponed the tour due to the participation of the Russian national team in the play-off matches of the 2022 World Cup. Thus, the league went to meet the team of Valery Karpin. The decision was taken by a majority vote.
The Russian national team will take part in the World Cup 2022 play-offs at the end of March. In the semifinals, the rivals of Karpin’s team will be the Poles. If successful, the Russian national team will compete for reaching the final of the World Cup in a confrontation with the winner of the Sweden – Czech Republic pair.
The Russian national team failed to complete the qualifying tournament for the 2022 World Cup in first place in the group, losing the lead to Croatia in the final match. Now Karpin’s team needs to overcome the playoff stage to participate in the world championship, which will be held in Qatar.
