The meeting ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of the capital team. The winning captain, Alexander Ovechkin, failed to score points in the match. At the same time, the Russian forward missed the empty goal at the end of the third period, when the opponents removed the goalkeeper.

Washington is in eighth place in the Eastern Conference standings and fourth in the Metropolitan Division. Thus, the team retains its chances of reaching the playoffs and fighting for the Stanley Cup.

In total, this season, 38-year-old Ovechkin played 78 matches in the NHL regular season. He has 30 goals and 34 assists.
