Sleptsova compared the conditions of Russian participation in the 2024 Olympic Games with a concentration camp

Olympic biathlon champion Svetlana Sleptsova criticized the conditions for Russian participation in the 2024 Olympic Games. Her words are quoted by RIA Novosti.

Sleptsova compared the conditions put forward by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to a concentration camp. “You can’t come to the opening ceremony, nor to the closing ceremony. Probably, I still have to go to the toilet according to the schedule. This is not a holiday or the Olympic Games, but some kind of test,” she said.

According to the former biathlete, Russians have little chance of competing in Paris, since athletes who want to take part in the tournament may not be allowed to cross the border, citing problems with documents. “They will do everything to prevent Russians from participating in the Games,” Sleptsova concluded.

Earlier, James MacLeod, director of the Department of Relations with National Olympic Committees of the IOC, announced that Russians and Belarusians would not be allowed to participate in the opening ceremony of the Games. Athletes will be able to attend the event, but will miss the Athletes’ Parade.

In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
