The coach of Russian swimmers Chepik spoke out against the participation of his players in the Olympic Games 2024
The head coach of the Russian swimming team, Sergei Chepik, revealed his neutral attitude towards his team’s performance at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris. His words are quoted by Match TV.
According to him, the team is not talking about the upcoming tournament, but he is against participating in it. “Wants can be different, each person has their own. Personally, my position is no way, the rest make the decision themselves,” Chepik said.
Earlier, six-time world swimming champion Yulia Efimova announced her desire to obtain neutral status to compete at the Olympics. In addition to titles at the world championship, she has a bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics in London and two silver medals at the 2016 Games in Rio de Janeiro.
On September 4, 2023, the World Aquatics bureau allowed Russian athletes to participate in tournaments in a neutral status. Athletes will only be able to take part in events where the time or result is determined by the performance of one swimmer. A maximum of one athlete from Russia per discipline will be allowed to compete.
