The French Parliament called for Israel to be barred from the 2024 Olympics
Member of the French Parliament Edouard Benard called for Israel to be barred from participating in the upcoming Olympic Games, which will be held in the summer of 2024 in Paris. The deputy outlined the corresponding proposal in an address to the country’s Minister of Sports, Amelie Oudea-Caster. Lenta.ru has read the text of the corresponding letter from Benard.
“Mr. Edouard Bénard draws the attention of Madame Minister of Sports, Olympic and Paralympic Games to the request of more than 300 Palestinian sports clubs and civil society organizations in support of Israel’s exclusion from the Olympic Games, starting with the Games in Paris in 2024,” he said in a statement.
Considering that the Israeli government is pursuing a policy of apartheid and organizing genocide, (…) this country (…) should be excluded from the Olympic Games
In this regard, Benard asks the head of the French Ministry of Sports a question about the government’s attitude to the idea of removing Tel Aviv from participation in the Olympics. “He (Benard – approx. “Tapes.ru”) asks her (Udea-Kasteru – approx. “Tapes.ru”) inform him of his position regarding the Palestinian call for a boycott of the Olympic Games in relation to the State of Israel,” the appeal clarifies.
In February, a group of 13 members of the European Parliament called on the International Football Federation (FIFA) and the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) to suspend Israeli clubs and national teams from competitions due to the conflict in the Gaza Strip.
That same month, 12 Middle Eastern countries called on FIFA to ban Israel from international tournaments, including Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.
