Ovechkin on his record 30th goal of the season: all thanks to stability and team
Russian forward and captain of the Washington Capitals Alexander Ovechkin commented on the National Hockey League (NHL) record for the number of regular seasons with 30 goals or more. His words are quoted on the league’s website.
Ovechkin called the number quite large. “This, of course, is all thanks to stability, health, as well as my line and teammates who find me on the open ice,” he noted.
On the night of April 10, Ovechkin scored a goal in a match against the Detroit Red Wings. It was the Russian’s 30th this season. In total, the forward reached this mark in 18 league seasons during his career, which is a record figure.
Ovechkin also reduced the gap from Canadian Wayne Gretzky, who ranks first in the sniper race, to 42 goals. The leader has 894 goals scored in his career, the Russian has 852.
