Lorena shines on penalties, and Brazil takes 3rd place against Japan in the SheBelieves Cup

This Tuesday, in the dispute for third place in the SheBelieves Cup, the Brazilian team faced Japan and, after a 1-1 draw in regular time, won on penalties. The match was played at Lower.com Field, in the United States.

With the positive result, Brazil, which was defeated on penalties by Canada in the first game, took third place in the competition played by four teams (Canada, United States and Japan). On the other hand, the Japanese, who were surpassed by the Americans in the previous phase, were in last position.

With the end of the SheBelieves Cup, both teams return to the pitch for their debut at the Olympic Games, on July 25th. The Brazilian team faces Nigeria, at 2 pm (Brasília time), at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium, in Bordeaux. On the Japan side, the team will duel against Spain, at 12 noon (Brasília time), at the Stade de la Beaujoire, in Nantes.

The goals

The score was opened at 35 in the first half, by Mina Tanaka, from Japan. Shirt number 11 took advantage of Maika Hamano’s great pass into the area and finished in the center of the goal.

However, the Brazilians equalized at 26 minutes into the second half, with Cristiane. The attacker took advantage of the corner taken by Yasmim and headed the ball towards the goal.

In the penalties, goalkeeper Lorena shone and saved Japan’s first three, taken by Kiko Seike, Nagano and Hasegawa. On the Brazilian side, Cristiane, Tarciane and Costantino converted.
