The State Duma responded to the ban on Ukrainians shaking hands with Russians at the Games

Zhurova: IOC will agree on a ban on handshakes between Ukrainians and Russians at the Olympic Games

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) will agree with the rules of conduct with Russians at the 2024 Games, which are being developed by the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Ukraine for its athletes. First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs Svetlana Zhurova shared this reaction with TASS.

Zhurova believed that the IOC would agree on a ban on certain actions between Ukrainians and Russians. “They will understand that it is easier for them to do this, because the Ukrainians will do it anyway, otherwise it will be a scandal, a bad background, bad press on this matter,” she explained.

Earlier, the head of the NOC of Ukraine, Vadim Gutzeit, said that Ukrainian athletes would be prohibited from congratulating the Russians at the Olympic Games. “Of course, do not stand in any general photos, do not give general interviews, of course, do not shake hands,” he listed the possible prohibitions.

The IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Games in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
