Brazilian Wendell is looking forward to playing his 100th game for Porto: “Huge joy”

After helping Porto beat Vitória de Guimarães, 1-0, and starting ahead in search of a place in the final of the Portuguese Cup, left-back Wendell is ready to live another special moment with the Portuguese club’s shirt . This Sunday, the Brazilian could reach the mark of 100 games for the Dragons, in a new clash against Vitória de Guimarães, this time, at home, in the 28th round of the Portuguese Championship.

In his third season at Porto, Wendell is going through a good phase. He is a starter for the team and one of the main players on the squad. As a result, he was called up to the Brazilian team again and started in the victory over England (1-0) and the draw with Spain (3-3), both friendlies played in March.

”It is an honor to reach this significant milestone in Porto, even more so at this special moment in my career. Being able to play my third season here and reach 100 games is a huge joy, even more so when I stop to remember what I’ve experienced at the club and the affection that the fans, staff and my teammates have for me and I for them”, he stated.

“Today, I think I’m at my best moment here in Porto and, perhaps, in my career. I’ve been playing regularly, managing to help the team with good performances and I also had the joy of returning to the national team, which was one of my main goals. I’m on the right path and I have to remain focused and with a lot of dedication to continue evolving on and off the field”, he added.

In 2023/24, Wendell has seven direct goal appearances in 28 games played, including three assists and four goals, a fact that makes the current season the highest scorer of the player’s career, revealed by Iraty and with spells in Londrina, Paraná and Grêmio, in addition to 7 years at Bayer Leverkusen, in Germany.

With the Porto shirt, Wendell played 99 games, scored seven goals, provided nine assists and won five titles: Portuguese Championship (2021/22), Portuguese Cup (2021/22 and 2022/23), League Cup (2022/ 23) and Portuguese Super Cup (2022).
