Svishchev supported Wiener’s proposal to discuss the non-participation of Russians in the 2024 Olympics
State Duma deputy Dmitry Svishchev appreciated the proposal of the head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics Irina Viner to hold a council on the non-participation of Russian athletes in the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. His words are quoted by Sport Express.
He noted that he supports the initiative to discuss this issue. “Now society is divided. Some people support the opinion that athletes should participate, others are categorically against it. We need to consolidate society and close these discussions,” said Svishchev.
Earlier, Wiener’s proposal was assessed by the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Dmitry Peskov. He recalled that the head of state suggested that athletes resolve this issue independently.
Earlier on April 6, Wiener called for a council to be held to make a decision on the non-participation of Russian athletes in the Olympics. In her opinion, by participating in the Games, athletes are trampling on Russian history and the present.
