The head of the ROC called Russian tennis players at the Olympics a team of foreign agents

Pozdnyakov proposed calling Russian tennis players at the Games a team of foreign agents

The President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Stanislav Pozdnyakov spoke in his Telegram channel about the performance of Russian tennis players at the 2024 Games.

Pozdnyakov noted that tennis players living and earning money abroad claim that they play for themselves and condemn the policies of their country and the Central Military District. He stated that he supported the position of the head of the All-Russian Federation of Rhythmic Gymnastics, Irina Viner, but proposed calling domestic tennis players not a team of homeless people, but a team of foreign agents.

The head of the ROC added that he respects the athletes’ achievements on the courts. “But from a human and civil point of view, our approaches to the current situation are diametrically opposed,” he emphasized.

On April 5, the first racket of Russia, Daniil Medvedev, said that he did not agree with Wiener, who called neutral athletes homeless. Earlier, Medvedev, as well as Andrei Rublev and Daria Kasatkina announced their desire to compete at the Games.

In December 2023, Russians and Belarusians were allowed to participate in the Olympics in Paris in the tournament as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
