The State Duma called on the Investigative Committee to check Bach under the article on interference in the lives of Russians
State Duma deputy Sultan Khamzaev called on the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation to check the statement of the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach about surveillance of Russian athletes. His words are quoted by RIA Novosti.
The deputy considered that the statements of the head of the IOC violated Article 137 of the Criminal Code of Russia (“Violation of privacy”). He accused Bach of interfering in the lives of domestic athletes and persecuting them for political and other reasons, collecting and using information against their interests and without their consent.
“I ask you to instruct us to check this act of aggression by Bach to the fullest extent of our law,” Khamzaev addressed the Chairman of the RF Investigative Committee, Alexander Bastrykin.
On April 2, Bach spoke about the creation of a special commission that monitors the statements of Russian athletes in the media and on the Internet. The Ukrainian side is also involved in this work.
In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
