UWW: Olympic champion Sadulaev was not allowed to qualify for the Games due to his support for the SVO
The United World of Wrestling (UWW) explained the non-admission of two-time Olympic champion in freestyle wrestling Abdulrashid Sadulayev to the licensed qualifying tournament for the 2024 Games in Paris. This is reported on the organization’s website.
The UWW said that the reason was the athlete’s support for a special military operation (SVO) conducted by Russia in Ukraine. The suspension was also influenced by the fact that Sadulayev is a member of the Dynamo sports society.
Sadulayev’s inadmissibility became known earlier on April 4. The athlete was removed from the list after another check by the International Olympic Committee.
The licensed tournament will be held from April 5 to 7 in Baku. To win a ticket to the Olympics, wrestlers will need to reach the finals.
Russians and Belarusians will be able to take part in the 2024 Olympics as individual neutral athletes by decision of the International Olympic Committee. However, athletes who support a special operation in Ukraine, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will miss the tournament. In addition, there will be no representatives of the two countries’ team sports in Paris.
