Russian swimmer Stupin refused to compete at the Olympic Games without the flag and anthem
Russian swimmer Maxim Stupin named the conditions under which he will agree to compete at the Olympic Games. His words are quoted by Match TV.
According to the athlete, he will not agree to a neutral status. “I do not agree with the conditions that the IOC and all the people who work there provide us. I will go only under the flag and anthem of my country,” Stupin noted.
The Russian also remembered that at the 2020 Games the Russians also competed in a neutral status. “But it was a different time then. Now is not the time,” he emphasized.
In December 2023, the IOC allowed Russians and Belarusians to participate in the Olympics in Paris as individual neutral athletes. At the same time, athletes who support the SVO, as well as those who have connections with the armed forces or security agencies of Russia and Belarus, will not be allowed to participate in the competition. In addition, representatives of team sports will miss the tournament.
