Jan Ziobro reveals why he was kicked out of the staff. “I always say what I think”

December 21, 2013. The first individual competition in Engelberg takes place on this day. After the first series, the 22-year-old leads sensationally. Shortly thereafter, in the final series, he shocked the entire world of jumping. Ziobro jumped 141 meters, which was the record of the old hill in Engelberg, and reached his first and, as it turned out later, only victory in. The next day, he took third place in the second competition.

Jan Ziobro exchanged skis for boards. Now he runs a furniture company

It seemed to be an impressive start to a beautiful career. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a one-time jump. Ziobro never came close to that level again. He had some good performances at the Falun World Cup, but then his career collapsed. He went to the B team, which made the jumper frustrated. In 2018, Ziobro started publishing videos on YouTube in which he hit people and coaches. He believed that he had lost his spot in the frame wrongly. Apolonius Tajner got it, and even. The jumper announced that he was suspending his career, and PZN kicked him out of the B squad. He did not come back to jumping.

Currently, he runs his own business – the furniture company “Meble Ziobro”. On the anniversary of his victory in Engelberg, he gave an interview. Of course, there were also threads from the jumper’s sports career. About a year ago there were rumors that Ziobro could return to the staff. But those were just rumors. Ziobro hit Apollonius Tajner once again. He said that “sabotage” was carried out in the staff. In an interview with TVP Sport, he explains that returning to jumping does not make sense for him. He also reiterates the accusations against those responsible, in his opinion, for the fact that he was not appointed to the first staff.

“The boy called for me apologized. But it’s not their fault, they didn’t call themselves.”

– The question is, what’s the point? To go back and make sacrifices again, you have to see the light in the tunnel. Knowing that if you are good enough you have a chance to take off somewhere, that everyone around will not hinder you from continuing your career. And when you know in advance that you will still be stuck in the national yard, they will not appoint you where they should – because the results prove it, the fifth player in Poland deserves a place in the national team like a doghouse, and they appoint two or three others to take your place – it’s all average … Not that way. If someone says they want to put you on the B-squad because it could be better, whatever, there is a plan, feel free to think about it and agree or not. But if they put you in front of a fait accompli, no one explains, doesn’t talk, they just demean you, it’s weak, says Ziobro.

– You must spend your entire childhood, all the years of adolescence. You do everything to develop your career, to jump well. And then you hear that there is no place for you. They are different, no matter if they are worse than you. The question “why?” Because. This is what throwing logs at your feet. And it was not a month or two, but two or three years. And I held it for so long. Anyone else, if treated like me, wouldn’t have lasted that long. How can I explain that? The players who were called up for me admitted, ugly saying, “the way they fucked you, they didn’t fuck anyone”. The boy called for me was apologizing. But it’s not their fault, they didn’t call themselves. A difficult situation – the former jumper is complaining.

– It’s not about the money. That is why I train, I devote myself, at the expense of my family, to take part in the most important competitions, be with the best, compete with them. Instead, I got relegated and could jump in the FIS Cup or the Continental Cup. A competitor who has ambitions who deserves it, I repeat, like a doghouse, will not be satisfied with starts in the third league – he added.

Many may have the impression that it was Ziobro’s mismatched language that deprived him of his place in the frame. The jumper himself, referring to his appearances in the videos, admits that he made mistakes, but always says what is on his heart.

– I’m not going to say that I was perfect, that there were no mistakes on my side. There are no infallible people. Everyone makes mistakes. I have committed them too. I wouldn’t call it a downside, but it was definitely important that I always say what I think. I have never beaten the bush. I prefer to say something in the eye. That this and this do not suit me. And we are trying to continue cooperation. I hate to pretend it’s okay and then talk about someone behind the back. It’s not my style. I preferred to clarify it, but people didn’t like it. I spoke as it is, and everyone kept quiet – said Ziobro.
