Figure skater Roman Kostomarov said that without prosthetics he feels like a cockroach
Olympic ice dancing champion Roman Kostomarov spoke on the Voli Show about the difficulties of living with prosthetics.
“When you are on your feet, you feel like a complete person. When you come home and unfasten everything, you realize that you are like a cockroach on your back that cannot turn over,” the athlete compared himself to an insect. He noted that the most difficult thing in everyday life is putting on prosthetics.
In March, Kostomarov showed how he snowboards. Previously, he shared a video of himself flying over the water on a flyboard.
In January 2023, Kostomarov was hospitalized with pneumonia and influenza B. Due to prolonged connection to a blood oxygenation machine and a ventilator, his tissue began to die. Doctors amputated both feet of the skater, then the shins of both legs, the entire hand of his right hand and several fingers of his left. Later, he was fitted with prosthetic legs and right arm.
