This Saturday morning, leader Bayer Leverkusen hosted Hoffenheim, at the BayArena, in Leverkusen (ALE), for the 27th round of the German Championship and won 2-1, coming from behind. Beier opened the scoring for the visitors, but Andrich and Patrik Schick ensured the victory for the home team.
With the result, the team coached by Xabi Alonso reaches an incredible 39 games unbeaten in the 2023/24 season. In total, there are 34 wins and five draws — an isolated record for a German club.
Thus, Leverkusen remains isolated at the top of the Bundesliga. The team has 73 points — 13 more than Bayern Munich, second place with one game in hand.
In turn, Hoffenheim suffers the third consecutive setback in the competition and remains with 33 points, falling to ninth place.
In the next round, therefore, Hoffenheim will host Augsburg, at 10:30 am (Brasília time) on Sunday, at the Rhein-Neckar-Arena, in Sinsheim (ALE). On Saturday, Bayer Leverkusen visits Union Berlin, starting at 10:30 am, at the An der Alten Forsterei Stadium, in Berlin (ALE).
Before that, however, Xabi Alonso’s men turn their attention to the German Cup semi-final against Dusseldorf. The ball rolls next Wednesday, at 3:45 pm, at the BayArena.
Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim goals
The first goal of the match came in the 32nd minute of the first half. Beier played with Weghorst, formerly of Manchester United, invaded the area and hit goalkeeper Hradecky to open the score in favor of Hoffenheim in Leverkusen.
After a lot of pressure in search of a draw, the home team reached equality in the 43rd minute of the second half. After a short corner kick, the ball was sent into the area, Jonathan Tah headed it in and Andrich appeared to take the first shot and make it 1-1.
The goal gave encouragement to Leverkusen, who remained on the attack. The turning point, therefore, happened three minutes later, in a play worked from foot to foot until Nathan Tella crossed just enough for Patrik Schick to push it into the back of the net and give final numbers to the duel.
