Osimhen says he is “available” for the African Cup if called up by Nigeria

Napoli’s Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen, made himself available on Tuesday in case he is called up by Nigeria. His presence at the Africa Cup of Nations was ruled out at the end of November after he suffered “multiple fractures” to his face.

“I’m available unless I’m not among the players called up to represent Nigeria,” the 22-year-old striker wrote on his Twitter account, after uploading photos on social media in which he appears wearing a protective mask over his face.

Operated on November 23, two days after a violent clash to the head during a Napoli match against Inter Milan, Osimhen was initially dropped for the African Cup after announcing a three-month layoff.

The former Lille striker returned to training away from the group on December 8th, raising hopes for the Nigerians.

Nigeria is in the group stage of the African Cup, which will be played in Cameroon from January 9th to February 6th, alongside Egypt, Sudan and Guinea-Bissau.
