Inter Milan and Milan reached a consensus for the next stadium in the San Siro area of Italy. The model, known as “The Cathedral”, still depends on bureaucratic issues with the city and should be ready in 2027.
The stadium intends to represent an icon commemorating the city’s artistic heritage. The project is inspired by two of the most representative buildings in Milan, the Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele.
According to the statement released by both teams, the desire is to create something innovative. The aim is to generate employment opportunities, regenerate an urban area and create a new green space of more than 50,000 m² for citizens, improving the image of Milan and Italian football.
“The new San Siro will be the most beautiful stadium in the world due to its strong identity and recognizability. An attractive, accessible and sustainable arena that will facilitate the clubs’ growth and their global competitiveness”, commented Paolo Scaroni, president of Milan.
“It will be an extra-contemporary green area that can be lived in all year round. The new sports and leisure district and its 50,000 square meter park will make San Siro the popular neighborhood for sports and entertainment,” added Alessandro Antonello, CEO of Inter Milan.
